Nine More Days in Paris!
We saw many things in our nine days in Paris. But more than that, we actually experienced
Paris. We set out on our own relaxing
pace and then waited to see what Paris had to offer. To make the best use of our time, we had done
a lot of research back home…or more accurately…Gord did a lot of research back
home! We saw and experienced too much to
spell it all out here, but we will tell you some of the main neighborhoods we
explored. The pictures in the slide show will give you a small glimpse of the
sites we saw.
We stayed in the Rue Cler neighborhood – so of course we explored this area fully.
We set out to see St. Germain and learned of its vast literary history, and while there we stopped in at the Luxembourg Gardens.
Of course you can’t be in Paris for a week and not walk the Champs Elysees. That evening we did a Seine River Dinner Cruise.
Monmartre was one of our favorite neighborhoods – colorful and artistic! We also headed back to St. Chapelle that evening and took in a Vivaldi Four Season String Quartet concert.
Mid-week we took the high speed train to Tours and did a tour of the Chateaux’s of the Loire Valley. These are all amazing.
By this time we were getting a bit tired, so we relaxed in the beautiful Parc des Buttes Chamont and did a walking tour of Pere Lachaise Cemetary. On that evening we did a night tour of Paris by car!
Our day in Les Marais and the Jewish quarter including Rue des Rosier was great.
We had pre-booked a private tour of the Palace of Versailles where we also met up with our Canadian tour buddies JoAnn and Sarah who also stayed on for an extra week in Paris.
We spent our final day exploring Les Halles and the market street Rue Montorgueil. In the evening we saw the finale of the Tour de France.
Wow what a week – one that we will never forget!

Highlights from Paris
Paris Cuisine
For the most part, we opted for casual French fare while in Paris, here's a sample of a few meals we enjoyed.
Some Old World Charm of Paris
For a city the size and wonder of Paris, and because we were in the city for an extended period, we've allowed ourselves six Old World Charm discoveries. There are of course endless such discoveries in Paris, but our choices go to the following special memories: Relaxing at the fountains of Trocadero with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop; Strolling casually through the colorful artistic neighborhood of Montmartre past an actual vineyard within the heart of the city; Enjoying tea and macaroons at Laduree on the Champs Elysees; Sauntering along the River Seine taking in the ever changing views; Watching kids with their dads and grandpas race sail boats in Tuileries Garden fountains, and finally; Enjoying lunch on the very characteristic market street Rue Montorgueil.
