An Afternoon to Remember - Hiking in the Swiss Alps
The Spectacular Scenery of the North Face Trail
A Stop in Gimmelwald
After hearing so much about Gimmelwald from our Rick Steves DVD's - we were thrilled to spend an hour meandering about this quiet little town discovering its Old World Charm from another era..
Back to the Valley Floor and Stechelberg
Back at the Hotel
Knowing that in a few days we were to begin our tour
of Paris, Rolinka thought it wise to give all the women in the group a lesson
on Parisan scarf tying. Yes, there were
a few confusing steps to this skill and all the women caught on very quickly…except
for Julie who seemed to get her scarf all tied in knots! Eventually, she did catch on, and everyone
had a few good laughs at her expense!
What a good sport! What a
surprise to us all when after dinner, we were entertained out front by a
community drum line, concert band with traditional Swiss dancers while we
savoured ice cream served to us on the hotel steps doubling as concert hall
seats.
The Old World Charm of Switzerland
Setting aside the stunning scenery of the Schilthorn and the North Face Trail - for those could easily trump just about anything, we instead focus our thoughts on three more humble memories. For this region we suggest these charming old world memories: Our quiet Stechelberg hotel surrounded by towering peaks at the very end of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the authentic lunch hut along the North Face Trail where we paused for refreshment amidst the stunning scenery, and the sleepy little town of Gimmelwald where life goes on as it did years ago. Switzerland - you offered the best day ever!
