Medieval Rothenburg
We were excited to arrive in the romantic medieval town of
Rothenburg, Germany. This perfectly
preserved medieval town with city walls still completely intact overlooking rich green countryside
was breathtaking. Keith gave us a quick
orientation to the town including how during WWII both an American and Nazi general cooperated together to save this town from destruction. Afterwards, Keith set us loose to explore all the town had to
offer. Gord had a hankering for
bratwurst on a bun with sauerkraut and he savoured every mouthful as we sat in
the town square on the steps waiting for the Glockenspiel to chime. Christmas in July was the next order of
events as we entered the largest Christmas store known to man! Two stories filled with beautiful Christmas
displays and ornaments galore to purchase.
We then sat on a church pew in St. Jacob's Church and gazed in awe at the incredible detailed wood Easter carving that took six years to complete. Such attention to detail down to the fingernails. After wandering around the Imperial Museum with its incredible collection of medieval antiques, we walked on the fortified city wall and then stopped for dinner in the Town Square with other tour friends. At eight o’clock on the nose, the Night Watchman showed up dressed in his authentic attire carrying a lantern and a large medieval axe. At sunset we followed him around the town as he shared many stories of the city from years gone by. Our perfect day ended even more perfect, as we sat in our hotel’s gorgeous private patio and garden sharing all that we had experienced together with our friends. A restful night in our cute room with a four poster bed made our day more than complete.

Old World Charm of Rothenburg
There are endless possibilities for "old world" in this delightful town, but we have chosen the German quaintness of our hotel room, the wonderful town walkway complete with fountain and timber-frame buildings, and of course the Glockenspiel in the heart of the town square.
